SUPPORT MARY and Colin WILSON ON THEIR SPONSORED WALK FOR ‘ACTION FOR M.E.’

In October this year, local couple, Mary and Colin Wilson, plan to do a 50 mile sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China to raise £10,000 in sponsorship for ‘Action for M.E.’ (the main U.K. charity working to help people with M.E. or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).

In 2003 Mary and Colin became ill with severe M.E. as a result of virus infection.

Mary became housebound for the next 18 months, at times bedbound, with severe exhaustion. 5 months after becoming ill she was diagnosed with M.E. and after reading up about the illness she finally began the long road to recovery through careful pacing.

Colin’s condition deteriorated to the point where he became bedbound for approximately a year with severe exhaustion, suffering paralysis and severe sensitivity to light and sound. He tried various forms of recovery with very limited success as each time a further relapse would follow. Eventually with treatment from a local energy healer he began to recover.

Two years after becoming ill Mary had recovered enough to return to work part-time and earlier this year Colin was also able to return to work. They have both continued their recovery to date and now want to help other people with M.E. by doing the sponsored walk.

M.E. is a chronic disabling illness, which affects 240,000 people in the U.K., including 25,000 children, and has a devastating impact on families and friends. Up to 25% of sufferers are severely affected, either house or bedbound, and unable to look after themselves. The illness has many symptoms including pain and exhaustion. The charity ‘Action for M.E.’ provides specialist support whilst campaigning for much needed research, early diagnosis, suitable treatments and services.
